KILBEGGAN

The Distillery was established in 1757 at the eponymous town Kilbeggan out of the remains of a former monastery. After having survived severe Prohibition impacts on demand the excise tax increase in Ireland leads Kilbeggan Distillery’s stills to shut down in 1953. With the help and donations of The Kilbeggan Preservation and Development Association founded by townspeople in 1982 who always kept the licence of the distillery alive, the restauration of the distillery was completed and the full whiskey production process was revived in 2010.

Kilbeggan today is still made according to Irish traditional methods at Cooley and partly within the centuries old walls of the distillery in Kilbeggan. Through the double distillation process it receives the typical mildness of Irish whiskeys and simultaneously the harmonious taste full of character a secret to be discovered. To ensure consistency every barrel is rotated by hand and aged to taste, not time, in our solar powered warehouses. Each and every bottle of Maker’s® is still hand-dipped in a signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, KY.
