Laphroaig Whiskey

LAPHROAIG

The signature smoky flavour may come from it being one of the last remaining
distilleries to malt its barley, or it could be the peat kilns, in use since 1840, that use a
low temperature for the cold smoking process. Either way, Laphroaig boast being the
most richly flavoured Scotch whisky in the World. A dram as individual as the place in which it’s made.

Laphroaig, meaning “the beautiful hollow by a broad bay” in Islay’s native Gaelic tongue,
is a place like no other. The distillery is perched on the shore, exposed to all the
elements the Hebridean Sea can throw at it. The Kilbride Stream is right beside it.
And so is the rich Islay peatland that has been infusing the whisky for over 200 years.
It’s this stunning spot that inspired brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston to lay
the foundations of the Laphroaig distillery back in 1815. Over two centuries later, this
substantial distillery boasts seven stills and their original kilns still burn as bright
as their love for making our world-famous whisky.
