BLACK BOTTLE
Black Bottle is a blended Scotch whisky born in 1879 in Aberdeen, Scotland, where brothers Charles, David, and Gordon Graham—originally tea merchants—pioneered its creation using local malts and grains for a robust, peaty profile that captured the rugged spirit of the northeast. An unusually bold whisky, equal part method and maverick, to this day Black Bottle remains the bold spirit of fearless exploration – full-bodied character with a signature smoky edge balanced by floral, fruity, and oaky notes.
Black Bottle’s secret recipe is still inspired by the original one crafted by Gordon Graham, made with a high proportion of malts. It features a shovelful of peated malts from the hallowed isle of Islay (including super-smoky Moine from Bunnahabhain), balanced-out with unpeated malts and ex-bourbon-cask-matured grains. The process uses mix of medium and heavily charred casks, scorched so hot that the wood is blackened and cracks like alligator skin, releasing natural sugars that caramelise to balance the smoke with the perfect sweetness. The blend contains malts matured in Virgin Oak (casks that have contained nothing else), extracting sweet vanilla and coconut flavours to deliver even more depth and character.
TASTING NOTES
Rushing clouds of crisp, smoked wood with hidden layers of sweet caramel make it boldly smoky and sweet. Taste blazing oak rip through dry woodsmoke with honey, sea-salt and charred toffee.
How to Enjoy
BLACK BOTTLE
The smoky undertones make it approachable for sipping and excellent for mixing, specifically in a traditional Old Fashioned.
